Throwback to the second edition of the Night of Ideas at Alliance Française Bangkok.

Coordinated by the Institut français, this 6th edition of the Night of Ideas was held in more than 65 countries, with a common theme "Closer".

In Bangkok, the second edition in the Thai capital was co-organized by the Embassy of France in Thailand, the French Research Institute on Contemporary Southeast Asia (IRASEC), Alliance Française Bangkok, United Design and Development Center and the Heinrich Böll Foundation, in collaboration with UN Women.

The event took place at Alliance Française and online January 28, 2021 and gathered around 100 attendees and 1500 online live viewers.

French and Thai guests from all walks of life, researchers, activists, artists and journalists gathered onsite and online for an evening focused on the civil society’s engagement in the making of a more inclusive and sustainable city considering the specificities of Southeast Asian cities.

“A true round-the-world trip of thought!”

What is the Night of Ideas?

Every year, the event "The Night of Ideas" is an invitation to discover the latest knowledge, to listen to those who are advancing ideas in all fields, and to discuss the major issues of our time.

This annual gathering is dedicated to the free circulation of ideas and knowledge between countries, cultures, subjects and generations.

Everywhere in the world, the most prestigious as well as the most unexpected places are invited to join the festival, offering their original interpretation of the proposed theme.

Across time zones, the echoes of the Night of Ideas are echoed via social networks, making this event a global event.

After the opening speech by H.E. Mr Thierry Mathou, French Ambassador in Thailand and the screening of four documentaries, the speakers and the audience exchanged views during a panel discussion on the notion of public space, on the projects underway in Bangkok and Paris and on the urban planning challenges these cities are facing.
