In March 2023, let's celebrate Francophonie Month in Thailand!

Every year in March, all over the world celebrate La Francophonie. Workshops, debates, conferences, exhibitions, and other cultural events are organized in many countries dedicated to this celebration of the French language and the Francophonie values such as peace, solidarity, and cultural diversity.

The Embassy of Belgium in Thailand which assumes the role of coordinator this year, along with Alliance Française Bangkok and the Embassies and delegations of Canada, France, Luxembourg, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, and Ukraine, as well as their partners, are delighted to present the new edition of the Francophonie month in Thailand, from March 1st to April 1st.

The French language in Thailand

Throughout the world, French is the 2nd language learned after English and the 4th language on the Internet. According to the statistics from the Organisation Internationale of la Francophonie (OIF), there are approximately 321 million French speakers in the world in 2022, with at least 93 million students studying the French language.

In Thailand, there are, by estimation, more than 300,000 French speakers and more than 50,000 students learning French. French is also the 3rd foreign language taught in the land of smile, after English which is compulsory, and Mandarin. There is no doubt that the French language holds a special place in the kingdom.

The program

From March 1st to April 1st, various partners will organize different activities related to this celebration, including film screenings, concerts, conferences and more.
