On March 4, 2026, Alliance Française Bangkok hosted the first international edition of the Grand Prix du Rayonnement Français. Organized as part of the 170th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Thailand, the ceremony honored individuals and institutions contributing to dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, a leading figure in promoting the French language and academic exchanges between Thailand and France, and princess Yasmine Murat, President of the Association pour le Rayonnement Français.

This event held special significance for Alliance Française Bangkok. The institution is placed under the high patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. During the ceremony, Alliance Française Bangkok was also awarded the Prix du Rayonnement Francophone, recognizing more than a century of commitment to the teaching of French and the promotion of Francophone cultures in Thailand.

Organized by the Embassy of France in Thailand, with the support of the Association pour le Rayonnement Français, the ceremony brought together numerous French and Thai personalities from institutional, academic, cultural, and economic circles.

Individuals committed to Franco-Thai relations

The Prix d’Honneur du Rayonnement Français was awarded to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in recognition of her long-standing commitment to the promotion of the French language and her support for French academic and research institutions.

The Prix du Rayonnement Scientifique was awarded to Dr. Supreeya Kaewla-iad, Associate Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Thammasat University, for her role in strengthening legal and academic cooperation between France and Thailand.

The Prix d’Honneur du Rayonnement Scientifique was awarded to Mr. Louis Gabaude, researcher at the École française d’Extrême-Orient and specialist in Buddhism and Southeast Asian studies, whose work has contributed for decades to intellectual exchanges between France and the region.

The Prix du Rayonnement Culturel was awarded to Gridthiya Gaweewong, Artistic Director of the Jim Thompson Art Center and a major figure in Thailand’s contemporary art scene.

The Prix d’Honneur du Rayonnement Culturel was presented to Mr. Robert Bougrain-Dubourg, founder of Restaurateurs sans Frontières, who has worked for many years on the restoration and preservation of artworks in Thailand.

Francophonie, solidarity, and expertise

Several key contributors to Franco-Thai cooperation were also honored.

The Prix du Rayonnement Francophone was awarded to Alliance Française Bangkok, represented by its President, Mr. Ariya Banomyong, for its central role in teaching French and promoting Francophone cultures for more than a century.

The Prix d’Honneur du Rayonnement Francophone was awarded to the Thai Association of Teachers of French (ATPF), represented by its Vice-President Khunying Wongchan Phinainitisatra, for its commitment to promoting the French language across Thailand.

In the field of solidarity, the award went to Ms. Elisabeth Zana, founder of the Nat Association and the Natacha School in Krabi, who works to provide education for underprivileged children.

The Prix du Rayonnement Gastronomique was awarded to Le Cordon Bleu – Dusit, represented by its Director, Mr. Jérémy Laurent, an institution renowned for transmitting French culinary expertise.

The Prix du Rayonnement Économique was awarded to Michelin East Asia and Oceania, represented by Mr. Soraphong Channarukul, a major contributor to the French economic presence in Thailand.

Finally, the Prix du Rayonnement Sportif was awarded to Muay Thai champion Victor Pinto, a symbol of cultural dialogue between France and Thailand through sport.

An evening celebrating 170 years of Franco-Thai friendship

The ceremony concluded with a reception at Alliance Française Bangkok, bringing together the laureates, partners, and guests to celebrate 170 years of diplomatic relations between France and Thailand.

This first international edition of the Grand Prix du Rayonnement Français highlights the richness and diversity of the ties between the two countries and the commitment of those who work every day to strengthen this cooperation.
